Toyoharu
A moment to unwind in the city.
Toyoharu is a standing noodle counter in Kanda-Ogawamachi celebrated for its melt-in-the-mouth simmered pork cartilage "paika," thick-cut braised pork, and chashu, served over your choice of soba, udon, or kishimen.
01 / ABOUT THE PLACE
At the standing counter, the eye is immediately drawn to the diverse meat toppings anchoring the noodle bowls. The signature dish, "Ganso! Paika Soba," highlights pork rib cartilage braised slowly until soft and gelatinous; its tender texture and savory richness seep into the soy-based broth, punctuated by a bright garnishing of red pickled ginger. Other hearty protein choices include "Atsuniku," featuring a massive slab of pork so tender it yields to chopsticks, soft sheets of chashu covering the surface, and sweet-savory simmered beef belly.
Another hallmark of Toyoharu is the option to select your preferred noodles: soba, udon, or flat kishimen. Beyond the standard slurp of buckwheat soba, the broad kishimen noodles catch the dashi broth particularly well, pairing naturally with rich braises like paika or chashu. Adding an egg to order—such as in "Paika Tama" or "Atsuniku Tama"—allows the yolk to melt into the dark Kanto-style soup, rounding the savory depth into a creamier broth.
Classic tempura items such as chrysanthemum greens, mixed vegetable kakiage, and burdock root sit alongside seaweed options like Sanriku raw wakame, mekabu, and mozuku, as well as combo sets paired with inari sushi or rice balls. On weekdays, the shop operates from 6:30 into the late afternoon, offering an easy stop where tickets are purchased quickly at the vending machine. A sprinkle of shichimi pepper or fragrant sansho from the counter allows diners to tailor each bowl to their liking.
